Fishing forms an important economic activity of this district with about 40 percent of the population employed in this trade. As the large area of Diu district is rocky, agricultural produce is confined only to about 20 percent of the total geographical area. Increasing tourism both domestic and foreign (combined about 4 lakh) has significantly improved per capita income of this region. Industrially, Diu is relatively backward with only one industrial estate and 25 small scale units operating with a capital investment of a meager Rs. 6.58 crore. The town is served by five scheduled bank and one cooperative bank.
